Ideas in Animation: Fall 2025

This fall, students from PS 15, Harbor Middle School, and PAVE Academy will study a range of animation techniques—from the optical illusion toys that catalyzed the art form to contemporary digital renderings. This introductory workshop invites students to utilize state-of-the-art software to create simple, two- and three-dimensional animations as a tool for personal storytelling. Using their own lived experiences and interests, students will create their own animations, experiment with a wide variety of media, and develop the skills needed to bring about their unique visions.

In this hands-on program, students explore the history of animation, experimenting with digital and analog techniques. Through individual, partnered, and group activities, students utilize state-of-the-art software to create short, stop-motion stories. Projects are designed to help students develop skills around critical thinking, teamwork, communication, time management, and problem-solving.

Ideas in Animation is an after-school program presented in partnership with Red Hook elementary and middle schools. Learn more about school partnerships at Pioneer Works here.
