Heart of the Machine
Some of the first computer programmers and published algorithms were created by women. The transgression from this female foundation has largely been enforced through long standing societal dynamics and divisions of power. Heart of the Machine is a program series that brings focus to cultural constructions around computational systems through a series of workshops, artist talks, and salons responding to the exhibition Refiguring Binaries, curated by Kelani Nichole. Highlighted throughout this series will be female-identifying practitioners, as well as the technological tools and resources to assist in promoting futures that are diverse and liberatory.
