Second Sundays

Second Sundays is a free event series presented on the second Sunday of every month. The program features open studios with current artists in residence, live music, exhibitions and participatory programs exploring art, science, technology and education.

John Lucas and Claudia Rankine: Stamped

In Stamped, writer Claudia Rankine and filmmaker and photographer John Lucas have collaboratively captured photographs of dyed blonde hair, as seen on the heads of strangers and acquaintances.

Matthew Morrocco: Orchid: RGB

Matthew Morrocco’s exhibition Orchid: RGB features a new series of photographs, which revolve around “Orchid,” a nameless, genderless figure posing in various landscapes of abstract RGB color fields.

Manifest Workshop

Led by artist-in-residence Autumn Knight and collaborator Chelsea Knight, this workshop uses text-driven discourse and a group performative exercise to address tactics and tools for recognizing and engaging with the subject of rage. A performance will follow.

Stamped: Interviews with Julia Elena

Artist and colorist Julia Elena will expand on the work in our current exhibition Stamped by recording interviews with visitors for her ongoing initiative, _colorproject, which seeks to explore identity through hair color.

NIC KAY PERFORMANCE WORKS-IN-PROGRESS

Resident NIC Kay will present a performance work-in-progress from 4-6 pm in studio 3A. GET WELL SOON [exercises in getting well soon] is a series of interdisciplinary performative exercises made with sound collaborator Rena Anakwe.

Border Crossers

Chico MacMurtrie of Amorphic Robot Works will present work-in-progress Border Crossers, a series of inflatable robotic sculptures meant to cross borders around the world as utopian monuments of peace and unity.

Tech Lab Open Studios

Mani Nilchiani and Caroline Cinders will share an experimental VR game that speculates the future of the Web in an economy where individuals’ privacy is currency. Xin Liu will preview her work-in-progress about sending a tooth to space.

Underwater VR Installation

Swim through the virtual waters of the Great Barrier Reef to experience the effects of climate change.

Manifest Performance

Chelsea Knight, Autumn Knight, and Jaimie Branch use text, sound, and expressions of intimacy and aggression to create an environment in which to work through rage as a productive form of discourse.
