Yaz Lancaster
Music Residency

Yaz Lancaster is an experimental artist whose practice is grounded in queer, DIY, and liberatory frameworks. Their work utilizes electroacoustic composition, sampling/collage, improvisatory modes, and consideration of relational aesthetics. Cultivation of care and intimacy, post-genre collaboration, and accessibility are priorities of their artistic ethos. Yaz frequently performs solo sets with violin/voice and electronics that comprise improvisations, songs, and composed music; and with their ambient/noise duo project medium. with gg200bpm.

They've had the opportunity to perform at Lincoln Center, The Shed, MoMA, National Sawdust, Public Records, Roulette Intermedium, MASS MoCA, The Poetry Project, and Trans-Pecos; and they've worked with artists including claire rousay, Dorothy Carlos, Leilehua Lanzilotti, Lisel/Eliza Bagg, Miss Grit, Nyokabi Kariuki, and Sean Pecknold. Yaz has been recently commissioned by Asia Stewart/The Shed, International Contemporary Ensemble, and the 2025 Gaudeamus Festival.

Yaz is also a poet and (music/arts) writer, organizer, and amateur powerlifter. They created + curate HEAVY HEARTS, a live performance series celebrating vulnerability in harsh sonics. Their sun, moon, and rising signs are all Aquarius.
