Molly Surno
Music Residency

Molly Surno (b. Los Angeles) is a Brooklyn-based installation artist who works in film and video, sculpture, sound, and photography. She received her MFA from Columbia University in 2013. Surno was a Steeprock Arts summer resident in 2015. In the fall of 2015 she will perform her sound sculpture We of ME as part of BAM’s Next Wave program.

Kodak Film granted Surno a sponsorship for 2011-2012, which she continues to use to develop an experimental documentary about a transgender Native American beauty pageant in the American Southwest. Her work has been exhibited at the Essl Museum and the Salzburg Museum of Modern Art. Surno is also the founder and director of Cinema 16, which pairs contemporary musicians with experimental films;. Cinema 16 has been shown at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Kitchen, and MoMA/PS1.
