Fellowships at Pioneer Works provide Alumni Residents with sustained support to expand their practices beyond the residency period through funding, mentorship, production resources, and public engagement opportunities. Programs such as the Onassis ONX & Pioneer Works Fellowship and the Working Artist Fellowship support the development of new media and socially-engaged work while fostering long-term creative exchange. Together, these fellowships cultivate an active alumni network of artists who continue to collaborate, teach, and lead public programming at Pioneer Works.
The inaugural Onassis ONX & Pioneer Works Fellowship is a collaborative fellowship that supports one Pioneer Works Alumni Resident each year by providing access to Onassis ONX New York production facilities and
resources, along with creative and technical consultations with Onassis ONX and Pioneer Works staff. It also includes a $5,000 honorarium for the production of new media artworks over the course of the twelve-month fellowship period.
Onassis ONX is the Onassis Foundation’s global platform dedicated to elevating innovative creators in the development, presentation, and distribution of new media artworks and immersive experiences.
The Working Artist Fellowship was a one-year program that supported artists in the development and completion of new, socially-engaged work. Launched in 2023, the fellowship serves as an extension of the existing Pioneer Works Residency Program—nominating New York City-based Alumni Residents to partake in a fellowship program that supports the development and completion of new, socially-engaged work.
Artist fellows each received a range of resources including a $50,000 stipend, teaching and public engagement opportunities, production resources, mentorship, and advisors to support artists who want to deepen and expand their connection to socially-engaged modes of creating.
