Just Announced: Pioneer Works Names Mara Manus Chief Executive Officer

The Board of Directors of Pioneer Works is pleased to announce that Mara Manus, former Executive Director for New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), has been appointed as the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer. 

We are grateful for your engagement and support of Pioneer Works over the last year. Now through December 31st, we’re fundraising to meet our end of year goal and close out 2024.

We're pleased to announce the first major renovation of Pioneer Works! To accommodate the first phase of our construction, we're temporarily relocating to 133 Imlay Street opening in Spring 2022.

Early Closure 5/10/23

Winter Break Closure

Pioneer Works will be closed between December 16, 2024–January 24, 2025 for a winter break.

For two unique evenings of music, Pioneer Works celebrates the renowned minimalist composer Terry Riley in his 85th year. Both nights will include performances from Riley and special guests, playing some of his most important works as well as improvising with longtime collaborators.

 (composer, pianist, vocalist) launched the minimalist movement with his classic 

. Composed in 1964, this seminal work had an enormous impact on the course of western music. His music has been played in the great concert halls throughout the world, and his discography includes 60 recordings on labels such as Columbia Masterworks, Wergo, and Nonesuch. A diverse and prolific career, Riley is still influencing music today.

Greg Fox is a New York City born and bred drummer, multidisciplinary artist, and teacher. He has played on and released over 50 releases since 2008, including his work with Liturgy, Ben Frost, Skeletons, Hieroglyphic Being, Man Forever, as a soloist, and with his projects GDFX and Guardian Alien. Fox has studied drumming with Thurman Barker, Marvin “Bugalu” Smith, Guy Licata, and Milford Graves, has toured worldwide with various groups and collaborations, held multiple international music residencies, and was awarded “Best Drummer in NYC” by the Village Voice. 2017 will see the release of a few new records, some touring in Europe and Japan as a solo performer and with Zs, Colin Stetson, Ex Eye, and Guardian Alien, as well as the continuation and expansion of his private and group teaching practice.
