Supper Club Workshop with Jen Monroe (Bad Taste)

Pioneer Works Supper Club is a dinner series created to celebrate local chefs as culinary artists and serve as a community gathering around a unique dining experience.

This first-ever workshop edition of Supper Club will take place in Ace Hotel Brooklyn’s Demo Kitchen and feature Jen Monroe, a chef, and artist whose project Bad Taste is committed to exploring new ways of thinking about food and consumption, approaching food as fantasy as well as a transportive medium.

We encourage cooks of all levels to join us for an evening of deliciously bonkers refreshments, while Jen Monroe guides you through how to gather inspiration, draft a menu, and low-lift methods to make a dinner party organized, personal, and surprising. Get hands-on experience folding fluffy steamed buns into aesthetically pleasing shapes (if you enjoy playing with modeling clay you will love this) that are guaranteed to be an easy crowd-pleaser for all types of gatherings.

Tickets are available to PW members. Please contact members@pioneerworks.org to request the Eventbrite access code or become a member.

About the Chef

Jen Monroe’s past work has included a dinner about the honey bee health crisis, a 100 square foot edible map of New York City, food installations for fashion week presentations, experimental cotton candy, concept pop-up dinners, a rendering of a futuristic seafood menu in response to climate change, and a series of immersive, monochromatic ten course "color meals." Her work has been featured in The New York Times, Vogue, and Dazed.

Demo Kitchen by Ace Hotel Brooklyn is a well-appointed canvas for culinary and community engagement, a locus of epicurean culture — a light-filled space with floor to ceiling windows, dedicated to all things food and drink: restaurant pop-ups, mixology workshops, gastro-symposiums, cooking classes and chef-curated feasts.
