Pioneer Works Supper Club is a dinner series created to celebrate local chefs as culinary artists and serve as a community gathering around a unique dining experience.
This edition of Supper Club features Shenarri Freeman—Executive Chef of Cadence, a plant-based restaurant with southern soul in the East Village. In line with the themes of our Fall 2023 exhibition Climate Futurism, this special iteration of Supper Club is dedicated to exploring sustainable methods in agriculture, food sourcing, and culinary practice.
About the Chef
Shenarri Freeman, aka “Shenarri Greens,” is a 2022 and 2023 James Beard Award semifinalist. She taps into her Virginia upbringing and vegan ethos, and spotlights Southern foodways through the lens of health and sustainability. Many of Shenarri’s signature dishes have roots in the foods she enjoyed at home with her family, all reimagined in plant-based form. Cadence landed on the Michelin Guide and 2022 nomination list. The New York Times called Cadence one of the top 10 new New York restaurants of 2021 as well as one of their top 50 favorites in America. Esquire named it to their top 40 in America. She has been written up in Vogue, NY Times, Esquire, NY Magazine and more. She is also part of the Forbes 30 under 30 class of 2023.
