About the Chef
Luis Herrera, a Venezuelan chef, has been hosting pop-up dinners showcasing Latin American flavors and seasonal ingredients throughout New York City since 2017. He consulted for the now-established restaurant Casa Ora in Brooklyn, bringing high-end Venezuelan cuisine to NYC for the first time. Luis also worked as a tournant at Blanca Restaurant in Brooklyn, which was awarded 2 Michelin stars. During the summer of 2020, he opened Outerspace Restaurant in Bushwick, Brooklyn as the co-executive chef. Most recently, Luis opened Ensenada, with a Mexican seafood concept.
Luis holds a BA in Mechanical Engineering, and completed culinary school in Caracas, Venezuela where he specialized in Venezuelan Cuisine. He worked at Chef Carlos Garcia's Alto Restaurant, considered the best restaurant in Venezuela, and then at Cosme, award-winning Mexican Chef Enrique Olvera's restaurant in New York City, from October 2014 through September 2017. Luis started as a prep cook and moved his way up to become a sous chef within the year. Cosme was voted New York Times "Best Restaurant in NYC 2015" and awarded 25th best Restaurant in the world on "The World's 50 Best" list in 2018.
