Pioneer Works is excited to present the 14th edition of Eyeworks Experimental Animation Screening Series, featuring two programs of experimental animation that include new films, classic pieces, and rediscoveries.
Eyeworks 2025 will screen in Chicago at the Block Cinema, in New York at Museum of the Moving Image, and in Los Angeles at 2220 Arts + Archives. As part of the Los Angeles screening, 2025 special guest James J.A. Mercer will present a live slideshow performance, and the world premiere of his new film Jason’s Story, made in collaboration with Yifan Jiang, at 2220 Arts + Archives in Los Angeles.
About the program
The Eyeworks Experimental Animation Screening Series is an annual festival focusing on experimental animation, with screening events in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York each fall. Eyeworks spotlights works made by individual artists, drawing on the tradition of classic cartoon animation and the lineages of avant-garde and underground cinema. The aim of Eyeworks, now in its 14th year, is to present works that celebrate animation as an experimental art form. Past Eyeworks guests with retrospective screenings have included David O'Reilly, Lori Damiano, Nancy Andrews, Caleb Wood, Takeshi Murata, Martin Arnold, Jacolby Satterwhite, Naoyuki Tsuji, Janie Geiser, Laura Harrison, Barry Doupé, Al Jarnow, and Yoriko Mizushiri.
Eyeworks is curated by Alexander Stewart and Lilli Carré, and is presented by Pioneer Works.
The Eyeworks 2025 artwork is by Susan Te Kahurangi King.
