Do Everything in the Dark

We are pleased to present Do Everything in the Dark, a group reading hosted by The Paris Review, Pioneer Works, and friends of Gary Indiana, with special guest Gary Indiana.

The celebrated writer, artist, and cultural critic will be reading from his 2003 novel Do Everything in the Dark, a roman à clef that conjures, in hilarious and heartbreaking vignettes, the everyday struggles of a group of middle-aged New Yorkers—actors, theatre-makers, artists—in the aftermath of the Downtown scene.

"...the people we used to know; the people who died; the people we grew tired of; the people who were waiting for a different life to come along when we knew them; the people none of us really knew; the people who showed up and left again so quickly that they only left an image dissolving in a doorway..."

Additional guest readers will be announced closer to the event.

This event will feature a cash bar and fall bites by Fort Defiance.

Gary Indiana is the author of seven novels, a prolific essayist, a visual artist, an actor, a playwright, and the former art critic for the Village Voice. Indiana lives on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

This event is co-presented with The Paris Review.
