Pioneer Works Launches $30 Million Capital Campaign to Support Next Phase of Growth

In 2019, Pioneer Works initiated the first Capital Campaign in our history to fund a major renovation centered around critical accessibility upgrades to our 19th-century building, a local landmark first constructed as an ironworks factory. The multiphase campaign launched with an ambitious fundraising goal of $30 million that will enable us to serve a larger and more inclusive creative community. This project is a necessary investment in the future of Pioneer Works and will create a new beacon of scientific and cultural engagement. We look forward to increasing programming opportunities and providing accessible cultural resources to the communities we serve.

As of May 2022, Pioneer Works has raised $21 million of the $30 million goal. We are thankful for the significant support from our local and global communities and donors. Its success has reaffirmed our commitment to creating an open and inspired world through the lens of interdisciplinary programming, continuing education, residency programs, and world-class art exhibitions that are accessible to all.

“My dream with Pioneer Works was to create a world without silos, allowing disciplines to flow freely between one another to produce great thinkers and open minds. Our programs have accomplished that and more; we have created a holistic experience that sees art, science, and community as going hand in hand. This expansion is the perfect next step for us, as we look to the skies to further our utopia.”

Prioritizing Access

This project will allow us to fully live by our mission by becoming fully ADA compliant and will expand access to our programs and spaces. The renovation will add an elevator to our second and third floors, which are home to our residency and science studios, technology and media labs, two galleries, and classrooms. Additionally, paved walkways will be added to our 20,000-square-foot garden—a green oasis in our home of Red Hook.
