Position Description
We are looking for a full time New York based designer to join our dynamic team working from our 25,000-square-foot warehouse space which encourages a transparent, collaborative environment where international artists, musicians, scientists and educators co-exist and work together.
This role is open as either a Designer or Senior Designer position, based on the experience of qualified applicants. The Designer/Senior Designer will demonstrate advanced skills in branding, typography, and art direction to create unique solutions for a wide variety of projects including publication, exhibition, wayfinding, branding, motion, environmental and web. This position will report to the Director of Design and be responsible for developing concepts, managing production, and executing visually compelling work that supports the organization’s wide array of programming.
The Designer/Senior Designer will assist in the maintenance, inventory, programming and general operation of the Design Lab: an in-house, designer-run, print and production space for the institution and its artists.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conceptualizing and producing high quality design solutions across multiple media and messaging platforms (print, online, social media, branding, decks and more)
- Applying and maintaining the visual brand identity across all media outlets
- Creating design systems and guidelines, then ensuring their proper execution and quality
- Manage departmental design requests, and undertake project management on assigned projects
- Produce technical publication and print files ready for final production
- Prioritize tasks, deadlines, scheduling conflicts, revisions and technical challenges effectively
- Ability to work with and throughout a broad organization and manage multiple projects
- Manage communication and production with vendors and partners
- Presenting work and articulating concepts to internal and external collaborators
REQUIREMENTS
- 3+ years of related design experience (experience in arts & culture preferred)
- BFA or MFA degree in graphic design (unless experience is sufficient)
- Proficiency in current Adobe Creative Suite design programs and Figma (motion, 3D, and web design experience a plus)
- Portfolio demonstrating expertise in typography, art direction, branding systems, print, digital and motion design
- Experience managing budgets, timelines, communications and production processes
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Proficiency with equipment including: large-format inkjet plotter, risograph, vinyl-cutter, & hand tools preferred
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000 annually. Compensation is commensurate with several factors including qualifications, skills, and relevant experience.
