Women in Sound Roundtable: The DJ + Diplomat

DJ Rekha joins us for a conversation on the cultural diplomacy aspect of DJing and producing. As the founder of Basement Bhangra and New York Times-dubbed “Ambassador of Bhangra”, Rekha will lend her perspective on how bringing Indian bhangra music into the wider contemporary dance music culture has social justice repercussions. We will also discuss the process of soundtracking events ranging from raucous dance parties to the Women’s March in D.C. and the craft of curating and guiding people through a meaningful aural experience.

About this roundtable:
This roundtable brings together musicians, artists, engineers, and others to form a community around sound-based practices, centered on the experiences of female-identifying participants. All gender identities are welcome to join the conversation!
