Having very little data available to work with is a common situation in DIY data gathering. This workshop will introduce concepts and techniques to maximize small datasets for machine learning. Through discussing different digital mediums for data gathering, artist and technologist Angeline Meitzler will share methods to optimize data using limited resources. By the end of this workshop, participants will be led through training a basic convolutional neural network on a small image dataset.

Price: Free with suggested donation.

Materials: Participants are required to bring their own laptops with a functioning version of Python.

Audience: Knowledge of Python preferred.

Angeline Meitzler is an artist and software worker based in Brooklyn.  She is interested in questioning the ideologies in language and digital culture through explorations in mark making and technology. Her practice takes the form of painting and browser based works.
