In this workshop, led by former Visual Arts Resident Rowan Renee, we will build our own pinhole cameras to communicate with the spirit realm. In doing so, we will dive into the history of spirit photography, which was used by spiritualists and psychic mediums in the Victorian era to provide visual evidence of otherwise invisible paranormal activity, before getting a hands-on experience building DIY cameras with readily available materials. We will learn how to manipulate our new cameras to produce haunting special effects.
Audience: Open to all.
Materials: Materials provided.
Rowan Renee is a genderqueer artist who works with analog photographic techniques to appropriate historical records and interject them with new meaning.
