Roundtable 1: ENGAGING THE POLITICAL PROCESS (FOR BETTER &/OR WORSE)
These films and videos document and investigate the successes and failures of political activities – from elections to protests and picketing.

A how-to and critique of techniques and tactics for political activism, direct action, and dissent taught through radical and experimental documentary. In this roundtable series we will present screenings and discussions with media makers, theorists, thinkers and activists.

Pedagogy for Dissent surveys documentary media created at the intersection of art and activism, exploring the power of the image, culture jamming experiments, tactics and strategies of media making and distribution. We will take a critical and grateful look at activism of the past in order to design effective contemporary modes of dissent.

Anna Scime

Anna Scime is an internationally exhibited artist, whose recent solo and group shows include: Burchfield Penney Art Center (Buffalo), Berlin International Directors Lounge (Berlin), Centro Cultural Borges (Buenos Aires), Detroit Independent Film Festival (Detroit), FLORA ars+natura (Bogotá), Kuala Lumpur Experimental Film, Video &amp; Music Festival (Kuala Lumpur) and PS1 MoMA (NYC). Her documentary work has been broadcast nationally and published throughout the web on Free Speech TV, PhillyCAM and ArtGrease.
She has received awards for her work including fellowships from ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes, The Center for the Moving Image, The Liberace Foundation, The New York State Council of the Arts (NYSCA), and The Robert and Carol Morris Fund for Artistic Expression and Performing Arts.
She studied journalism at Northeastern, and graduated summa cum laude with Bachelor’s Degrees in English and in Art from University at Buffalo, where she also received an MFA from the Department of Media Study, and taught courses in media production and analysis.
She is currently Lumiflux Media’s Executive Director and works to ensure that the organization sustainably stewards a dynamic roster of media arts related productions.

Liz Flyntz

Liz Flyntz is a curator and writer based in Brooklyn, NY. Focused on media and systems-based art, she has organized exhibitions, screenings, and symposia around the US and in Germany.
She is co-curator of the Pioneer Works exhibition,<a href="http://pioneerworks.org/exhibitions/the-present-is-the-form-of-all-life-the-time-capsules-of-ant-farm-and-lst/">The Present is the Form of All Life: The Time Capsules of Ant Farm and LST.  The exhibition explores the time capsule projects of seminal media art and architecture group Ant Farm and their contemporary successors, LST. She co-edited the publication of the same name, available through DAP.</a>
In 2014 she first presented the exhibition <a href="http://hyperallergic.com/162314/alternative-media-software-and-video-in-1970s-counterculture/">SEND BLANK TAPE: Radical Software Magazine and Early Video Distribution Networks</a> as an installation of early video at Pioneer Works.
Her writings on technology and art, media art history, and interviews with contemporary media artists have been published by <a href="https://www.questia.com/library/journal/1G1-405923671/takedown-notice-a-conversation-with-paolo-cirio">Afterimage</a>, <a href="http://thecreatorsproject.vice.com/blog/will-future-art-galleries-be-on-the-human-body">The Creators Project</a>, and <a href="http://pioneerworks.org/intercourse/">Intercourse</a>. She has a BA from Antioch College, an MFA in Media Study from SUNY Buffalo, and studied Media Art and Culture at the Bauhaus University.
