This 4-hour course will explore methods of monoprinting, or the practice of making unique prints. Students will be introduced to basic techniques of hand-printing – printing that does not require a press and can easily be done at home. Practices will include stamping, texture-transfer, photocopy transfer, stenciling, and reductive/additive painting among others. Students will explore the surprising and satisfying possibilities of repetition as they learn how to build their imagery using these basic strategies.

No previous knowledge of printmaking is necessary. Students will have devoted class time to troubleshoot, collaborate, and edition their imagery.

<a href="http://www.christine-garvey.com/">Christine Garvey</a> received her MFA from Concordia University Montreal, and BFA from Washington University in St Louis. Her works on paper and installations have been exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions with Galerie Circulaire (Montreal), Sur La Montagne Galerie (Berlin), Phra Nakorn Gallery (Bangkok) and Jules Maidoff Gallery (Italy). Garvey is the recipient of numerous grants and awards including Concordia University Faculty of Fine Arts Fellowship, Mobility Travel Award, and most recently a Fulbright Research Grant from the Italian Commission. From 2015-2016 she was a Visiting Fellow at Florence University of the Arts and a Visiting Artist at Siena Art Institute and SACI Florence among others. Garvey lives, works, and teaches in New York.
