Freedom School Documentary Film Summer Program
In this six-week film intensive, 6th and 9th grade students will collaborate in small groups to produce a short documentary film, learning the art of filmmaking alongside working industry professionals. Red Hook will serve as the film's thematic anchor by featuring locations in, and voices from, the community.
Working both in front and behind the camera, up to 10 students enrolled in Red Hook Initiative's Freedom School Summer Program will be tasked with conceptualizing, conducting research, planning, producing, and shooting non-fiction short films. Production will take place on location at Red Hook Initiative and designated areas around the neighborhood
Upon completion of the six-week program, the student film will be screened at Red Hook Initiative’s End of Summer Block Party in August and then at Pioneer Works monthly Second Sundays on September 13. It will be submitted to Red Hook Community Cinema as part of Red Hook Open Studios.
