Electroacoustic Strategies with HxH

In the course Electroacoustic Strategies, Music Resident Alumni HxH will dive into two approaches to augmenting instruments, voices and variable sound sources: manipulation with a computer via Ableton Live and the use of pedals. The class will work through how to set up your signal processing and formulate effective ways to use one or both of these methods.

Date: This two-time in-person workshop meets on Saturdays, 9/2 and 9/9 from 1-5pm

Price: $200

Audience: Some music experience required.

Materials: Please bring a laptop with Ableton Live downloaded (https://www.ableton.com/en/trial/). Limited number of computers available upon request.

Accessibility: Classes will meet on the 2nd floor, which is accessible via stairs.

HxH is the improvisatory electro-acoustic duo of Lester St. Louis and Chris Williams. The duo utilizes a mix of trumpet, cello and electronics to build worlds traversing through acoustic sound, grainy textures, expansive pools of sounds, breaks, cuts and beats. They both have long and deeply fulfilling instrumental practices that look for ways to augment and help us maximize the communication of thoughts and feelings to listeners. When coming together as a duo and building an installation practice from their individual research, the two showed each other methods to build tools for electroacoustic performance in ways that were better and more tailored to their own artistic expression.
