Olafur Eliasson on Power, Uncertainty, and Public Space
Can art transform how we experience public space? Last November, Olafur Eliasson's artwork, Lifeworld, took Times Square's iconic bright screens and blurred them for three minutes every night. The piece was on view from November 1st to 30th, 2024, and the artist came to Pioneer Works that month to discuss it with art historian Gloria Sutton. Together, they unravelled how power is ingrained in public spaces, exploring the ways architecture and digital technology can affect our relationships to ourselves and each other. ♦
