Pioneer Works is organizing its first hackathon. We aim to bring together students, artists, and developers to help everyone express themselves through technology.

What exactly is a hackathon? A hackathon is a 24 hour event that revolves around learning, collaboration, and creation. In 24 hours we want to empower people and provide them with the tools needed for development of applications for the web, mobile phones, or even just cool hardware (i.e. wearable tech, interactive displays, etc.). There are no limits as to what can be created at the hackathon. However, prizes will be awarded in categories such as “best transportation app,” “best weather preparedness app,” “best community development app,” etc. to help the Red Hook community.

Hack Red Hook 2014

Hack Red Hook brings developers, artists, community organizers, and builders to the same table to work together toward the same goal of cultivating neighborhood pride. Over the course of the 48-hour hackathon, teams design and build interactive hardware installations that are set up all over Red Hook. In 2016, the winning team of Hack Red Hook built an interactive light sculpture run on solar panels to light the sidewalks throughout the neighborhood.
